THE CLINIC
OPERATED BY CLINCH VALLEY PHYSICIANS, INC.
The
Clinic, a multi-specialty group medical practice that provides
quality health care for southwest Virginia, traces its roots back to
1938 when the original group of physicians were part of The Clinch
Valley Clinic Hospital. The hospital was sold, and in 1977 the
physicians formed the professional corporation, Clinch Valley
Physicians, Inc. The group continued to practice in the medical
office building located beside the hospital until they outgrew the
facility.
Land was purchased
at Claypool Hill and a modern 43 thousand square foot building that
could accommodate twenty physicians was constructed. In September
1982, the group relocated their medical practice to this
well-equipped present location.
The present medical staff
includes eighteen physicians, and eight nurse practitioners
representing a wide range of medical specialties to provide
comprehensive health care for the community. Physician recruitment
and retention is an on-going priority due to increase in patient
visits and retirements.
The size of the facility and
parking area were increased in 2002, to accommodate the growing
number of medical staff members, and patients.
The Clinic is committed to offering
and up-dating highly sophisticated diagnostic and treatment
services. Complete Radiology services are available, and have been
updated during the last four years. Two new radiology rooms and a
new CT Scanner were added in 2002. Top of the line mammography,
ultrasound and bone densitometer are also available. Mammography
and ultrasound services are accredited by the American College of
Radiology. The laboratory is Medicare and CLIA certified and offers
services not usually found in physician’s offices. Physical Therapy
and Cardio-Pulmonary Departments are also available.
The Clinic is operated by the
physicians. A five member Board of Directors formulates policies
of The Clinic and employs a professional administrator to conduct
daily operations. The number of employees who provide medical
services for patients has increased from 90 in 1982, to 130 in 2006.
William C. Hunter, MD is
currently Chairman of the Board, and members include Larry G.
Mitchell, MD, Jose M. Piriz, MD, Timothy A. Presnell, MD and Roy V.
Thomson, MD.
Jerry J.
Davis is administrator of the group.
